Talk-of-Town: Dashing Producer's risky move

Producer Bellamkonda Suresh's aggressive moves have brought his quick bucks, but at times he paid the price too. He brought the AP theatrical rights of film Maattrraan (Duplicate in Telugu) for a staggering Rs 17 crore. This move has shocked the trade, as the rights of Surya's previous films were fetched for less than Rs 15 crores. Surya's last outing '7th Sense' failed to set the cash registers ringing. Although the film fared reasonably well in Nizam territory, it incurred losses to distributors and exhibitors in Andhra and Rayalseema. Trade analysts say, Maattrraan should get a solo release, positive talk and fantastic openings in AP to at least recover the investment. "A super hit talk is a must for this film for break even. Producer need to forget about the profits, if the film gets a divide or negative talk in the first few days of its release," is what they say. Surya was always known to experiment with his looks and the subjects he choose. He plays conjoined twins in this film and this is the first time an Indian actor has done something like this. Let's see if his hard work pays off!
